Festive Mood

Woke up this morning early and decided to get my morning walk with Millie in early.  At 5:30 a.m. it was already 79 degrees and the humidity was 85 percent. So off we went, thank heavens for the wonderful breeze.  We, well I, was soaked by the time we got back, but content to know I did it and didn't find an excuse not to.  Besides the skies were pretty dramatic this morning.

Even Mike was up at 6:30 a.m. and got his walk in.  Our plan this morning was to pick up Mike's truck down in Havelock.  It was down having some brake work done.  We picked up the truck and then headed over to Chocowinity where the Sunflower festival was taking place.

Well having never been to this particular festival I wasn't sure what to expect.  It took place at someones farm outside of Chocowinity and there was an admission fee.  That should have been my first clue that this was not like other "festivals" we have been to in the past.  We arrived there at 10:00 a.m. and were going through the line to park.  I knew that parking was $5.00 and there was the entrance fee of $10.00 per person.  Well when we got to the person collecting money they said it was $20.00 per person which made my jaw drop to the floor.  I quickly responded with why then did your Facebook page say $10.00 per person.  She said that was a mistake and it had been changed but since we had seen it and said something she would honor that price.  Well I can honestly say we won't go to this festival again.  We soon came to find out it was more of a concert venue (thus the high admission fee), there were few vendors and there were no sunflowers at all since none of them had bloomed yet.  Only some fake ones a gentleman was selling.  Ugh!  $25.00 to walk around and see pretty much nothing.  Oh well lesson learned.  I did get a couple of good photos though.

Some awesome cloud formations, multiple layers.

This is where in a couple of weeks all those lovely sunflowers will be.

Found this guy enjoying his morning meal.

We then headed over to Washington, or Little Washington as the locals call it.  It's a nice little waterfront town.  We stopped for some lunch and walked a little around the waterfront and some in town.

Love me some old buildings

I seriously am attracted to some crazy things. Love the repetition of the bottles

After a great lunch and a warm walk around the water front we headed back home.  Stopped though in Bridgeton at the Blueberry Festival.  Yes this was our second festival of the day and to our surprise it was so much better than the other one.  It was much more what we had been used to.  But sadly enough they ran out of Blueberries first thing in the morning.  I guess the Blueberry crop was early this year and pretty much everyone was sold out, unlike the sunflowers.

Lots of activities for the kids

This event was fun to watch the kids bounce around

Argh some Pirates showed up at the Blueberry Festival

Loved the look of this guy

So after an adventurous day we headed home, hot, sweaty and happy that we ventured out to both the Festivals this weekend.  Now we sit and enjoy all the storms that are rolling through.
