Lake Mattamuskeet, NC

On Friday Mike and I took a drive over to the Lake Mattamuskeet area.  I had seen photos of the area and was interested in seeing the place in person.  It's a huge lake with a great deal of history.  See some of the photos of our trip below.
While crossing the 5 mile "bridge" across the lake we stopped to see this bird
and 3 others.  There was the gray and white bird on either side of the road
in exactly the same location.   Almost like they were guarding the place.

Here is one of the white ones taking off.  I don't know much about birds so not sure what the name of this one is.

A photos of Lake Mattamuskeet

Some local folks fishing near the lake

Pungo River

We found this small little cove on the Pungo River, we think these are
remnants of boats that might not have made it through a hurricane,
since this looked to be a hurricane hole.

Had Mike stop my by a local fishing company to take these photos, love the looks of these vessels.

At this same location there were several boats that where partially sunk.

Beautiful day for taking photos

Some views along the way.

More fishing boats in a different location.

This was the old pump house at Lake Mattamuskeet, what a wonderful view.

So sad to see so many half sunken boats

This mushroom was literally golden.

Mike taking a walk on the bridge

Great reflections, can you see the turtles on a log?

Again more half sunken boats

Beautiful day for reflections

One beautiful rose found amongst all these boats.

So sad
