January Snow in New Bern

We left Columbus on January 2nd, a day early as there were storms forecasted for our area.  Well as you can see from the photo below taken on January 4th we are so glad we left early.  On the 3rd a huge storm rolled into the east coast and we were slammed with ice and snow.  Now when we lived in Ohio this was no big deal, it happened there several times during the winter months.  Down here in New Bern well that is a completely different story.  The south is NOT PREPARED for winter weather.  Our county alone only had 4 snow plows, that's it.  We were pretty much stranded for 5 days as the ice and snow (and no removal) made the roads in the area pretty much impassable.

I must admit though it was a gorgeous site.  So for the next 5 days we just hunkered down and enjoyed the down time.  Luckily we had the smarts about us to stop at the grocery store on our way home from Columbus.  We were set.  The following are photos I took the morning of the 4th during a
walk.

Across the street at the abandoned golf course it was just beautiful.

One of the neighbor kids taking advantage of a day off from school and a great hill.

The ice was spectacular as long as you didn't have to drive on it.

Mike caught this one of me.  He was inside with a horrible cold, which he later shared with me and it literally has taken us almost a month to get over it.

Miss Millie had the right idea, stay inside by a sunny window.
